The festive season is a quieter time for us at Blindingly Obvious so, with a little way to go, and before we put our feet up by the fire and crack open the Christmas sherry, we thought we'd take a minute to let you know what's going on in our neck of the woods this holiday season 2018.
If they've let you off early from work so that you can spend time at home with the family, our top tip for places to visit over the Christmas period is Ruxley Manor Garden Centre. Only a stone's throw from Dartford, Ruxley Manor always has plenty going on during the months of November and December.
Ice Skating in Sidcup
Admittedly, a garden centre isn't the most likely location for an ice skating rink, but yes, Ruxley does indeed have one this Christmas (and has done for the past few years) so if you're local to the Dartford, Sidcup or Bexley area, you won't have far to travel. The ice rink is a good size and is also covered so there's no danger of getting cold and wet if the weather takes a turn for the worse. You can quite literally 'get your skates on' anytime from now right up until the 6th January 2019 (Excludes Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day). Prices start from £2 for toddlers and go up to £5 for those over the age of 3 - Sessions last for 45 minutes and if you don't have your own skates, you can hire them at the venue as well. There are Peak and Off-Peak rates, so make sure you visit their 2018 Ice Rink Sessions page for more information.
If you'd like to get an idea of the size of the rink, check out the time-lapse video below of the ice rink being constructed on a previous year.
The reindeer are flying in
If you've only ever seen reindeer on Christmas cards, now's your chance to get up close and personal with the real McCoy. Situated just on the outskirts of Sidcup, Ruxley Manor is the festive home for Bracken, Bramble, Lightning and friends from 10th November right up until 2pm on Christmas Eve. They're available to meet each day and you'll meet different ones depending on the time you visit. Ruxley is a big place so if you want to make a beeline for them as soon as you get there, they can be found at the back of the Landscaping Department.
Santa's Grotto in Sidcup
Another star attraction at the venue is Santa's Grotto. This is always popular with the kids and it tends to sell out fast so visit their events page quickly to check availability.
Other things to do
During the summer months Ruxley is a hive of activity for green-fingered visitors and although the place is still full of plants and accessories it's also worth a visit if you're looking for gifts ideas for friends and family. From food to clothing, the venue has lots to offer and you can also pick up Christmas trees and decorations as well.
So, what are you waiting for? - Get your skates on and get down there!
